Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 Introduces First Character Weak Kingsley, Teases Announcement for June 29

Studio TRIGGER has introduced the first character, Weak Kingsley, for the CYBERPUNK EDGERUNNERS 2 sequel anime. Fans at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival had the chance to see a teaser earlier this week, while the broader announcement is scheduled for June 29.

The new anime will be a 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077, earlier described as “a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge”. It will be directed by Kai Ikarashi, who directed Episode 6 of the original anime titled “Girl on Fire.” Ichigo Kanno is the character designer, while screenplay will be handled by Masahiko Otsuka. It was also previously confirmed that Netflix will be streaming the new series.

Weak was revealed in collaboration with @Gigguk on Twitch. The character’s description:
“Once known as “King,” a veteran edgerunner at the top of his game, Weak now lives in the shadow of his former glory.”

Teased with: “Heavy is a crown. Heavier is the chrome.” Check out the new teaser image below.

CD PROJEKT RED (or CDPR) is the company behind the Cyberpunk 2077 video game. Studio TRIGGER also animated the first CYBERPUNK: EDGE RUNNERS anime series, which was released in September 2022 and also had a total of 10 episodes. The franchise launched a prequel manga focused on Rebecca and Pilar in December 2024.

The first anime was voted as the Best New Anime of the year in our yearly awards for that year, as well as the Best Original Anime. Netflix is streaming the show, describing its story:
The series tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in Night City — a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he stays alive by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.
